24-hour Quick-to-Quote Commitment
Production lines aren’t getting any easier to quote, but we know manufacturers expect answers fast. One of the strategies we’ve implemented to help our distributors satisfy customers and win business is a commitment to a 24-hour turnaround on quotes.
“Most of the time we can even beat that promise by turning estimates around the same day,” says John Pesicek, Distribution Manager at MCE. “Our proposals come in a Word document with AutoCAD drawings, so distributors can easily cut and paste all the information into their own proposals. Being able to drop the AutoCAD drawing right into the plant layout helps everyone understand early on how the conveyor solution will fit.”
To keep turnaround tight, MCE also shares CAD blocks of our conveyors with distributors, so they can skip a step and send us what they’d like to see in the MCE solution. MCE Responds Even Faster to a Manufacturer’s “Whoops!” Moment
A forklift can do some damage, even to a solid MCE conveyor, as one of our distributor’s customers recently found out. Fortunately, the forklift operator wasn’t hurt when he backed into the drive end of an MCE conveyor on a production line that runs 24/7.
The 911 calls from the manufacturer to the distributor to MCE burned up the lines that day. Our team accepted the challenge of replacing the drive unit within 24 hours for our long-term distributor partner and his even longer-term customer. The drive end of a conveyor has some complexity, and we tapped into all of our teams, from plastic parts to laser-cutting to assembly to crating, fabricating a replacement 30” drive virtually overnight.
“Because MCE conveyors are modular, and because we had a history with this distributor and manufacturer, we knew exactly what was needed,” says Pesicek. “The accident happened early in the morning, our distributor had the purchase order to us by midday, we shipped the replacement drive the next day, and in less than five days the line was back up and running.”
